Sri Lanka Women’s cricket captain Chamari Athapaththu has been honoured by the World Cricketers’ Association (WCA) by her induction to the high realms of
Its Player Advisory Board.
It marks a milestone chapter in Sri Lankan cricketing annals as far as player status in an advisory capacity on a world cricketing governing body goes and is a serenading moment in the 36-year old Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket Captain’s cricketing career away from the laurels Athapaththu has won by her cricketing feats driven by her magical batting feats that has put her among the top batting greats in the international arena.
Indeed, this recognition in a decision making advisory capacity of driving world cricket is a high prestige shot that the Lankan skipper has fired for her country by her acceptance to such a summit fold
The WCA announced a number of updates to its Player Advisory Board, with Athapaththu joining a group of leading international cricketers including Pat Cummins, Jason Holder, Heather Knight, Aiden Markram, Scott Edwards and Laura Wolvaardt.
Athapaththu joins newly appointed members Rashid Khan, Wayne Madsen, Daryl Mitchell and Maddy Green, replacing retiring members Tim Southee and Sophie Devine.
Athapaththu reacted to her appointment by saying that she was honoured to be selected to the global advisory body.
“I am truly honored and delighted to be appointed to the Player Advisory Board of the World Cricketers’ Association. This is a proud moment not only for me personally, but also for Sri Lanka and the wider Asian cricketing community,” she said.
Athapaththu noted that she hopes to contribute her experience to strengthen the voice of players globally, particularly ensuring representation for players from Asia.
“I look forward to contributing my experience as an international cricketer to help strengthen the voice of players across the world. It is important that players from all regions, especially from Asia, are heard and represented in key decisions that shape the future of the game,” she added.
Athapaththu also said she is committed to working closely with fellow board members to support the growth of cricket, improve player welfare and contribute positively to the global cricket ecosystem.
The World Cricketers’ Association said the updated Player Advisory Board aims to reinforce the collective voice of players at a pivotal time for global cricket and ensure players help shape the future and long-term success of the sport
