The Mahela Jayawardene mooted Ceylon Golf League Sri Lanka’s first franchise format a great success

The Ceylon Golf Leage(CGE) of which former Sri Lanka cricket legend Mahela Jayawardene is the founder in a passion after his great cricket career saw Sri Lanka’s first-ever franchise – format which is the city’s pride meet sporting excellence yesterday in In this tournament eight power house team tee off representing iconic cities across the island battle out over three days at the historic Royal Colombo Golf Club from 5th to 7th December 2025.

The eight teams which participated are – Trinco Sharks, Sigiriya Hornets, Hambanthota Tuskers, Galle Ballers, Nuwara- Eliya Panthers, Colombo Aces, Kandy Kings and Anuradhapura Gladiators.

The league also brings together a power house of lineup of patners who share a vision for a new era of Sri Lankan sport. Sampath Bank Private Banking joined as the tittle partner, with Hutch Sri Lanka powered by and Master Card as event partner. They are joined by spinner as the energy drink partner, Sports Nutrician Hub as Hydrajan partner, Marina Square as the property partner, MPower Capital partner as financial services partner, Izuzu as the Automobile partner, Cinnamon Grand Hotel as the Hospitality Partner and Ewis as the Technology Partner.

Nuwara-Eliya Panthers won the inaugural tournament and emerged of the Champions at the Ceylon Golf League finishing ahead of the Trinco Sharks in the final standings after a strong performance when it mattered most and the Hambanthota Tuskers won the third place in the tournament
