Kasagala Group opens third supermarket in Athurugiriya

The Kasagala Group of Companies will be expanding its local and international footprint soon with more supermarkets to be set up island wide, and then venturing into the export business, announced Kasagala Group of Companies Chairman Dr. Ranjith Nandana Peiris.

Speaking further at the opening of the third supermarket in Athurugiriya last week, he said plans are in place to set up 10 supermarkets in the near future to provide products and services at convenient and most importantly at affordable prices.

“Our supermarkets will help local small scale retailers and the farming community whom we intend to empower by granting them a good price for their produce and help them develop their industries,” Dr. Peris said.

Kasagala Group of Companies opened its first flagship store in Matale and the second in Koswatte and Battaramulla recently.

Dr. Peris said the company opened a network of supermarkets across the country with the aim of obtaining products from farmers at a reasonable price and provide them to customers at a subsidized rate.

He said the company has programmed to provide a fair price to all producers adding that w upork is already underway in many places in making it a reality. Similarly, plans were also in place to obtain the technology from China and expand our products and services across the country and beyond soon.

The head-office of the Kasagala Group of Companies was opened in Koswatte, Battaramulla recently to facilitate the expansion of the programme throughout the country.

“The business which commenced small in Miriswatte has grown into a diversified business today,’ said Executive Director of Kasagala Group of Companies Ven. UnowittPiyaratne Thera.

A large number of youth secured jobs through the services offered by the Group which has developed its business to cater to the export market.

The opening of the head-office will facilitate its business expansion.

who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest commended the bravery and efforts of Dr. Peiris who has spread his business wings to many sectors to serve the common masses in the country.

However, he noted that the 18% VAT to be charged on daily turnover of all businesses big and small alike will hit the poor consumer on whom the tax burden will be passed on and that the move will impact badly all small businessmen in the country.

A large number of eminent businessmen, politicians and MPs were present at the event.
