Veteran photojournalist Herbert Perera’s launch of his own website. Discovery Sri Lanka took place on Sunday on a highly successful note at the Mercantile Cricket Association’s Legends Wing.
Herbert, who was so graciously given the free use of the Mercantile Cricket Association hall, in his welcome speech had a very special thank you for the President of MCA, Mr Mahesh De Alwis who he said, “So graciously gave me this MCA hall free of charge without which it would have been difficult for me to have staged the launch. I must specially mention my great appreciation that Mr. Mahesh De Alwis’ great gesture has gone a long way towards the success of it.
He also made special mention of the Guest of Honor, Mr.V. Ramani, a top businessman from India, a longstanding friend of his who has made a name in India in the beauty care industry where he is the CEO of the Beauty genie conglomerate.
Similarly, he made special mention of the Guest of Guest of Honor Rohan Somawansa, General Secretary of the MCA who he described as a tower of strength by his very presence on the day as a top cricket man associated with driving MCA cricket.
Mr. Ramani, who took the floor, delivering the keynote address, was quick to mention to that he made it a special occasion to double up to Sri Lanka to grace the launch of his good friend Herbert’s website despite his busy work schedule back home.
“I wouldn’t miss this event for anything as I had promised my good friend Herbert Perera to be present on this occasion,” he said while going on to state that he had a close relationship with Sri Lanka over the years.

Meanwhile, General Manager of Mercantile Cricket Association Rohan Somawansa, speaking at the launch said that it was a previliege to have been associated with Herbert’s web launch knowing Herbert as a photojournalist involved in driving sports particularly cricket.
He did recall his involvement himself visiting India on the MCAs cricket tours.
“The Mercantile Cricket Association has played a key role promoting the sport in Sri Lanka for years,” he ovserved.
