Sri Lanka Women were undone again by their Indian counterparts tripping to a 7-wicket beating on an ordinary score of 128 for 9 wickets off the 20 overs which India made light of by a stroll in the park led by Shafali Verma smashing an unbeaten 69 filled with 11 boundaries and a six as the hosts took a 2-0 lead in the 5 match T20 series yesterday at Vishakhapatam. As in the previous game, the Lankans downfall was their inability to cope with India’s spinners led by Charani who took 2 wickets for 23 runs
Sri Lanka got off on a flattering tempo by skipper Chamari Athapaththu’s cameo 31 off 24 with two sixes and 3 boundaries as she charged India’s trump card pacer Kantri Gaud with a slashed six off her with Charani helping the ball on by a mis field on the boundary.
Athapaththu made the most of the early field restrictions accounting for 31 off 24 balls out of Sri Lanka’s 38 off 5.3 overs despite the early loss of Vishmi Gunaratne caught and bowled by Gaud for 1.
But Athapaththu’s innings was cut short by the deceptive spin of Sneh Rana who induced her to mistime a delivery, Harshitha Samarawickrama stepped in to kept up the tempo scoring 33 with 4 boundaries supported by Hasini Perera 22 with 3 boundaries.
But India’s spinners proved too much for the Lankan batters led by Charani 2 for 23 to dictating terms.
India 129 for 3 (Shafali 69*, Rodrigues 26) beat Sri Lanka 128 for 9 (Samarawickrama 33, Athapaththu 31, Charani 2-23, Vaishnavi 2-32) by seven wickets
